Why factory verification matters
On Alibaba and 1688, anyone can look like a manufacturer. A “Gold Supplier” badge is a paid membership, not proof of a factory. The three things importers get burned by:
- Trading company posing as a factory — you pay a middleman’s margin and lose control over quality and lead time.
- Capacity it doesn’t have — a small workshop takes a large order, then delays or sub-contracts to whoever is cheapest.
- The address doesn’t exist — rare, but it happens, and it’s the reason you never pay 100% up front to an unverified party.
What we check — on site, in China
- Legal identity. Business licence, registered capital, legal representative, scope of business, and whether the company is even allowed to make and export what you’re buying.
- Is it a factory or a trader? We confirm actual production — machines, lines, workers — versus an office reselling other factories’ goods.
- Capacity & capability. Can they realistically make your quantity to your spec in your timeline, and have they made this product before.
- Product check. A physical look at a sample or current production, so the thing you’re buying matches the listing photos.
- Export experience. Whether they can actually handle export documentation, or whether that falls to you.
On-site vs document verification
Document checks (licence, registration) can be done remotely and are a useful first filter. But for a serious order — especially machinery — nothing replaces someone physically standing in the factory. Because our team is in Shenzhen, an on-site visit to the Pearl River Delta manufacturing belt is practical and fast, not a two-week expedition. That proximity is the whole point of verifying through us rather than a Dhaka-only agent.
