How Air Freight Booking Works, From Pickup to Dhaka Airport

DE International express air freight - DHL FedEx UPS shipping agent China to Bangladesh

Air freight’s speed can make the process feel like a black box — cargo leaves China and, a few days later, it’s in Dhaka. Here’s what actually happens in between.

Pickup and Airport Handover

Cargo is collected from the factory or supplier and delivered to an air cargo handling facility near the departure airport, where it’s weighed, measured for chargeable weight, and prepared for the flight.

Export Documentation and Flight Booking

Export customs clearance and an airway bill are completed before the flight departs. Unlike a bill of lading, the airway bill isn’t a document of title, but it still serves as proof of shipment and is needed for import clearance.

Arrival and Import Clearance

Once the flight lands, cargo is offloaded and moves into the import customs process at Dhaka airport. This stage often moves faster than sea freight clearance simply because of smaller shipment volumes per flight, but documentation completeness still matters just as much — see our guide on essential import documents for what you’ll need ready.
